Cancun Airport
I spent months researching beach vacation destinations before selecting Cancun, Mexico. I’ve been to Cancun twice in my lifetime. Picking the perfect hotel and flight package for a family vacation at the right price was a new experience for me. I found the perfect package through Travelocity.com, which included a roundtrip, direct flight on Frontier Airlines, six days and five nights at the all-inclusive GR Solaris Resort and Spa, and roundtrip transfers with Local Expert transportation.
Frontier Airlines is wonderful and offers a newer fleet, spacious seats, and great customer service. Watch out for the extra fees for seat selections and checked bags. Go online before your flight to check-in and purchase the extras to save. All extras are more affordable if purchased in advance. Pack a few snacks for the flight to avoid purchasing food and snacks onboard the aircraft. Don’t forget your entertainment of choice. For example, I chose to download a season of “Being Mary Jane” on Netflix, which kept me entertained on the flight to and from my destination. I packed two magazines to read as well.

GR Solaris Resort & Spa is a lovely property. It’s located 15 minutes from the airport in Cancun’s hotel zone (10.5 miles), which is full of hotels, shops, clubs, restaurants, attractions, and miles of beautiful turquoise water and white sand beaches. There are six restaurants at the resort. Cafe Solaris offers a breakfast buffet daily, and the food and beverage selections are perfect with something for everyone to enjoy. Lunch is available at the snack bar or Rosmarinus. The snack bar has everything kids and teens love to eat from pizza to french fries. The Rosmarinus serves a buffet-style lunch with an impressive variety of dishes that rotate daily.

Marco Polo and Zai are two restaurants that require reservations a day in advance and both have dress codes. Plan accordingly. It’s worth it. The food is great at both properties, which are open for dinner only. Dinner reservations are not required at Salon Tehuacan, Cafe Solaris, and Rosmarinus. There are several bars, and a deli available at the resort as well. Overall, I enjoyed Cafe Solaris for breakfast, snack bar for lunch and both Marco Polo and Zai for dinner. The dinner buffets were average and need improvement.

GR Solaris Resort and Spa pools are fantastic with everything from a kiddie pool to an adult only pool area that includes a jacuzzi and massage beds. The entertainment staff is fantastic. There are more than enough opportunities to interact and have fun in the pool areas with sports, dancing, games, contests, and exercising.
GR Solaris Resort & Spa is not a large resort, so it was perfect for me and my family. I’m not a fan of super large resorts that require shuttles or golf carts to move visitors throughout the property from the rooms to the restaurants and even the beach. GR Solaris Resort & Spa is a walkable resort.

It’s an oceanfront property. You pay extra for a balcony with an oceanfront view and a little more if you want a jacuzzi on your balcony. An oceanfront view is mandatory for me and my family.

I spent the majority of my time on the beach. My ideal vacation is relaxing on the beach, reading a good book, listening to the sounds of the ocean, and feeling the warmth of the sun on my body.
Until next time, Cancun! Time to plan another vacation.
